Company History
In 1970 the founder of Surveying And Mapping, Samir "Sam" G. Hanna, left his home in Egypt and came to the U.S. with only $250 and a goal of one day financially supporting his family. From that humble beginning he has built one of the largest and most successful surveying and mapping companies in North America, employing more than 600 highly skilled experts located in several offices nationwide. Today the firm has become an undisputed leader in providing geospatial solutions to a wide variety of industries.
After several years in a leadership role with a national engineering firm, in 1994 Mr. Hanna established his own surveying company, Surveying And Mapping, Inc., which later became Surveying And Mapping, LLC (SAM). In 2014 the company celebrated the 20th anniversary of its origin. Under Mr. Hanna's direction, the firm has expanded from its initial offering of professional land surveying services, to include digital aerial mapping, terrestrial, mobile and airborne LiDAR services, hydrographic surveying, subsurface utility engineering (SUE), utility coordination, and geographic information systems (GIS). The company also now has a wholly owned subsidiary, SAM-Construction Services, LLC® (SAM-CS), that specializes in construction phase services.
Today, as CEO and President, Mr. Hanna stays focused on the quality of work and customer satisfaction. He personally guides the company's approach to delivering high value products, and remains engaged in helping to develop innovative solutions for unique problems. His philosophy of recruiting the best people and providing the most advanced equipment and training is a primary driver pushing the firm’s efficiency to its maximum. Ultimately, he stresses the importance of having talented and committed employees: “We value the people that work for us above all else,” said Mr. Hanna, “Without them, there’s no other way we could succeed.”
